That time of the year has
come again. When Muslims the world over embark on a month-long spiritual
commemoration of one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The holy month of Ramadan is
a time of adherence and celebration, and Resorts World Genting once again
invites all Malaysians and international guests to break their daily fast on
the mountaintop this May, while counting down to the beginning of Syawal and
Hari Raya Aidilfitri on June 4.
This year, the famous Ramadan
Buffet at the Rajawali Coffee House at Resorts World Awana returns once again.
Featuring over a hundred dishes, the theme of the buffet this year is Bazar
Malam di Awana – a collection of food and drink stalls arranged like a vibrant pasar malam.
Start off with an
international spread of appetisers, including Ulam-Ulaman Zaman Jepun (Japanese
colonial-era salads) like Pegaga, Ulam Raja, Terung Pipit, Terung Bulu, Petai,
Pucuk Janggus, Pucuk Mata Itik, Umbut Kelapa, Jantung Pisang. There’s a Mendeka
Kerabu station featuring all sorts of salads like Prawn, Squid, Fish and Crab,
as well as traditional pickles like Jeruk Nyonya Masdor, Jeruk Kelubi, Jeruk
Mempelam and Jeruk Salak.
The feast then moves into
the main courses, with over 15-20 stalls serving up Malay specialties from
across the country. At the main Rosnie’s Stall, a whole Roasted Australian Lamb
is presented in all its glory with Homemade Black Pepper Sauce and Mint sauce.
Other stalls include ones specialising in Ayam Percik, in Otak-Otak and Satay,
in Tempura-style Deep-Fried Seafood, in Mamak favourites like Murtabak and Roti
Canai, in Nasi Kerabu/Nasi Lemak, in Kebabs and in Laksa and noodles such as
Mee Jawa and Mee Rebus. There will even be a stall for fragrant Pais Ikan
Tempoyak, a luscious spread of Nasi Kandar/Briyani at Gopal’s Stall, a sizzling
Ram Lee WoW Burger stall, a touch of Chinese at Cho’s Local Counter and
aromatic broths at the Sup Meletup ‘Abe’ Awana stall. Don’t miss out the main
specialty of Rajawali, which is the “Awana Rendang Tok”.
Completing the buffet is a
full spread of soups, breads and rice. Remember to save some space for snacks
like Keropok Lekor, Apam Balik, Durian Goreng, Pisang Bakar Kelapa Parut/Cempedak
Goreng and Rojak. And, of course, a spread of premium Kurma (dates) imported
from the Middle East – which is the traditional way to break fast.
After the satiating meal,
cool down and sweeten up with the freshest of local fruit at the Pondok Buah
stall like Watermelon, Nangka, Dragonfruit, Rambutan, Bananas and Papayas or
tuck into Rajawali’s amazing selection of over 40 Malay kuih at Taman Manisan “Che
Re” including Kueh Lapis, Kueh Talam, Kueh Lompang, Ondeh-Ondeh, Kueh Dangai,
Kueh Akok, Kueh Bingka, Kueh Kole Kacang, Kueh Lompat Tikam, Badak Berendam and
Kueh Bunga Tanjung. Other dessert options includes cooling down with some
Cendol or Ais Batu Campur, indulging in warm stews like Bubur Cha-Cha, Pengat
Pisang Raja and Bubur Penambah Rase, or freshening up with a sweet selection of
traditional pasar malam drinks like Air Sirap Bandung, Air Sirap Selasih, Air
Mata Kucing, Air Tebu or Air Jambu Batu.
