Tea-ing off at Park Avenue Lounge

Insta-worthy treats at Resorts World Genting.

Eiffel Tower High Tea set

Park Avenue Lounge has some of the best real estate in SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting’s exciting experiential lifestyle mall. An oasis of tranquility amid the busy-ness, Park Avenue Lounge is plush and luxe, beckoning weary visitors to rest and revive in cosy, inviting comfort. The Lounge’s floor-to-ceiling windows look out unto the entrance of the in-construction theme park, with a direct view of the soon-to-be-unveiled light and sound fountain.  In the day, the Lounge looks up into boundless blue skies dotted with cable cars, while night views showcase the fairy lights of the city of entertainment.

While Park Avenue Lounge serves breakfast from 9am, and offers a selection of food for all-day dining, the most notable indulgence at Park Avenue Lounge is a decadent high tea. All three variants come with a choice of coffee, tea or chocolate. Available from 12pm to 7pm, the Junior High Tea (RM59) consists of a selection of savouries and sweets for two. Begin with dainty finger sandwiches with an assortment of fillings, the most quintessential being the cucumber sandwich. These sandwiches have a long history, for something so seemingly simple. Cucumbers were first used in sandwiches in the Victorian era in England. They became the filling of choice for tea sandwiches because they made a light snack, and did not fill diners up too much before dinner.

Today, there is an art to the quintessential cucumber sandwich. Only white bread is to be used for this kind of sandwich, with butter spread on one slice, and cream cheese on another. Cucumbers must be sliced wafer thin, preferably until they are translucent. Cucumbers are then laid on the buttered slice of bread, and a dash of salt and pepper sprinkled on to the vegetable. A sprinkle of fresh dill or mint leaves are added before the cream cheese slice of bread is placed onto the cucumber, and sliced.

To add variety to Park Avenue Lounge’s Junior High Tea sandwich selection, Coronation chicken (another filling which harkens back to British royalty, and which was created on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth II’s ascension to the throne), egg & mayonnaise, and smoked salmon are also offered.

If all things sweet are your preference at high tea, then the very Instagram-worthy. Eiffel Tower High Tea, priced at RM98 is just the treat for you. The Eiffel Tower set serves up a selection of sweet dainties for two persons. Like the Junior and English high tea sets, the

sweet choices are made up of red velvet cake, servings of rich cheesecake, light-as-air macaroons, and chocolate pralines. For more weight to the meal, there are also freshly baked scones with strawberry preserves and clotted cream.

Because high-tea is such a social thing, Park Avenue Lounge has also curated the English High Tea for four (RM135). This serves up a double portion of all savouries, scones and sweet bites, enough to power a convivial catch-up and bonding session. Again, the selection comes with a selection of coffee, tea or chocolate. Classic coffees can be selected from a notable range of medium roasted coffees, or Blend Rouge Richard, from Parisian master roasters, Cafés Richard.

Amongst the fine tea selection available at Park Avenue Lounge are sencha, Ceylon, Grand Earl Grey, apple cherry, rose lychee, verbena, chamomile or peppermint. Bespoke French blends include Au Temps des Tsarines (citrus fruit and orange peel), Reves Enfantines (Nice apple, hibiscus, rosehips, liquorice) and Fruit Rouge (red berries).

High tea sets are served daily from 12pm to 7pm. Park Avenue is located on the Ground level of SkyAvenue. Casual clothing is accepted, but the outlet disallows flip flops, thongs and slippers.
