Dota 2 tournament comes to Malaysia


Malaysia will witness one of the biggest Dota 2 tournaments next year, the ESL One Genting.

A joint collaboration between Resorts World Genting and the world’s largest eSports company ESL, the tournament will offer a total prize money of US$250,000 (RM1.02mil).

It will be the second ESL ­tournament to be held in South-East Asia, and will pit eight world class Dota 2 teams against each other.

The eight team will be revealed in the coming months and will ­consist of invited teams, ­internationally qualified teams and an exclusive Malaysian team.

“Dota’s popularity in South-East Asia is astonishing and the strategic partnership with Genting opens a whole new way of delivering high quality eSports content to one of the most enthusiastic, passionate and committed group of fans we’ve even seen,” says ESL vice-president of Pro Gaming Ulrich Schulze.

In April, ESL One Manila in the Philippines attracted over 16,000 fans with over 2.5 million unique viewers tuning in online according to ESL.

Resorts World Genting vice-­president of promotions and ­entertainment Kelvin Tann says: “ESports is a massive and growing industry globally, and we hope to play a meaningful role in developing it locally and regionally.”

ESL One Coming To Malaysia In January 2017: Featuring Dota 2 and RM 1 Million Cash Prize


Here comes a great news for Dota 2 and competitive gaming enthusiasts out there: one of the biggest eSports tournament in the world is heading to Malaysia very soon. The event’s name – ESL One – should be familiar to everyone in the scene.

Officially called ESL One Genting, the event is scheduled to take place at Genting Highlands’ Arena of Stars from 6 to 8 January 2017. Held in cooperation between ESL, Resorts World Genting, and Mineski Events Team, there will be a total of USD 250,000 (approximately RM 1,020,563) prize pool up for grabs at the event.

Similar to the ESL One Manila that took place earlier this year, ESL One Genting will be featuring eight elite Dota 2 teams from throughout the world. The field will be made of specially invited teams as well as top teams from upcoming ESL One Genting qualifiers. Not to forget, a Malaysian team will receive a direct invite to the tournament as well.
