Sixteen lovely ladies from 11 countries vied for the title of Miss Chinese International Pageant 2017 that was held outside Hong Kong for the first time ever.


The renowned beauty pageant was held at Resorts World Genting’s Arena of Stars on 15 January, featuring young ladies from the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and Asian cities.


A prelude to the event themed Reunion with the Stars was hosted at the resort on 13 January by Resorts World Genting and organiser Television Broadcast Limited (TVB), in honour of those supporting the pageant particularly corporate guests and media partners.

The pre-show saw guests welcomed by a lion dance performance as they arrived at the Genting International Showroom for a sumptuous Chinese New Year dinner. Entertainment for the evening was a performance by the 16 contestants —the stars of the evening. The contestants were introduced to the audience, followed by an individual talent contest that involved their singing and dancing skills among others.


Guests also get to feast their eyes on the contestants as they parade across the stage in Malaysian traditional costumes.


Performers for the evening include Uriah See—who won Astro Star Quest 2014, Nicole Lai – the champion of Astro Star Quest 2012 and also TVB International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship 2014—and the band, Mad August.  The audience were also mesmerised by the beat boxing skills of 9-year old Sawyer Leong who staged an impromptu performance.


But the main highlight of the evening was no doubt the announcement of the winners of the titles - Miss Malaysia Regalia and Miss Finesse. The awards are in relation to the talent show and the donning of traditional costumes respectively, with the winners each presented with a trophy for their success.

The title of Miss Malaysia Regalia went to Serene Lim of Kuala Lumpur while Li Gloria representing Toronto took the Miss Finesse title.


Li Gloria won the Miss Finesse title.


Those present at Reunion with the Stars include Mr Kevin Tann, Vice President of Promotions & Entertainment, Resorts World Genting. At an earlier joint press conference between the resort and TVB to announce details about the pageant, Tann said, “We look forward to having these contestants from all over the world compete for the crown at Resorts World Genting. We believe they will gain an unforgettable and enjoyable experience at the resort and also in Malaysia.”


The press conference was also attended by Mr Felix To, Deputy General Manager Programming & Production of Television Broadcast, who expressed TVB's excitement about holding the pageant at the resort.

The Miss Chinese International Pageant 2017 also featured some big international stars, notably Tan Sri Dato' Michelle Yeoh and Hong Kong actors Simon Yam and Eric Tsang. Tan Sri Yeoh and Yam were among the judges at the pageant, while Tsang will take on the role of master of ceremonies.


Tan Sri Yeoh, who is also a brand ambassador of Resorts World Genting, hopes her presence will inspire all the contestants. The actress, who was Miss Malaysia 1983 and was voted as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” by People Magazine in 1997, found fame in Hong Kong and was also the only Asian Bond Girl.


The night of the star-studded event kicked off at approximately 8pm and ended sharp at 10.30pm. The show started off with a glimpse of highlights of the previous days from the contestants and their tour around Resorts World Genting.

Hong-Kong actor and comedian, Eric Tsang, hosted the night as he played the role of master of ceremonies along with three other notable hosts which were Louis Yuen, Astrid Chan and Janis Chan.

The Arena of Stars was packed with gusto audiences as half of them were avid supporters of the Malaysian born lass, Serene Lim.

Multiple performances were being displayed as well and on the other hand, TVB , the Hong Kong based broadcast company was airing the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2017 live on their channel.


Besides that, the star-studded night was gleamed with the appearance of Puan Sri Cecilia Lim, the wife of Genting Malaysia Berhad Chairman and Chief Executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Genting Malaysia Berhad President & Chief Operating Officer, Dato’ Sri Lee Choong Yan as well as TVB personalities and Asian celebrities who were seated at the VIP portion of the packed and lively indoor stadium.



Stitch Yu who hails from New York, holding aloft the Miss Chinese International Pageant 2017 crown.


After the show that lasts for approximately two and a half hours, Stitch Yu who hailed from New York was crowned the title Miss Chinese International 2017. Serene Lim of Kuala Lumpur took the First Runner-Up spot while Crystal Fung of Hong Kong emerged as the Second Runner-Up.

Adelaide Lee who is from Johannesburg, managed to grab the Miss Congeniality title. There was also an appearance by previous winner of Miss Chinese International Pageant 2016 winner, Jennifer Coosemans of Vancouver who crowned her successor Stitch Yu from New York.

Last but not least, after all the crowning and celebration, celebrities and personalities from the VIP area stepped up to the stage and took a group photo before calling it a day at the star-studded event at Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands.
