Missed Yayoi Kusama’s much talked about exhibition in Singapore? Fret not! There is another spectacular installation for you to check out at the SkyAvenue at Resorts World Genting. In today’s age where media displays are becoming the everyday norm, SkySymphony brings a whole new ball game, quite literally, with 1001 winch balls. Best of all, entrance is free!

          forest

As the only fixed kinetic ball display in the world, each unassuming white orb that is suspended at a four-storey height has the ability to go through the whole colour spectrum and move 17.5m in 6 seconds as the first multimedia winch attraction in Asia. Three-storey high LED walls made up of small LED modules to form wraparound screens (the biggest in Malaysia), following the curves of SkyAvenue serve as a backdrop to the kinetic balls. Costing RM28 million, international experts conceptualised the installation and brought it to life after 18 months of preparation, transforming SkyAvenue into something beyond your average shopping mall.

Using personalised sound control technology, the orchestra of audio, visual and motion graphics programming are presented through three original shows. Wonderful shapes emerge and transform fluidly from the suspended balls, using them to create simple but magical effects like raindrops, the likeness of a bird, a toothbrush and even heart shapes resulting in a unique 360 degree and 3D experience.

The sound, display and balls work together to weave 4-minute stories such as ‘Forest’ a bioluminescent abstract tale of the Flora and Fauna that form the natural habitat of Malaysia that is the pride of the country. In ‘Urban Symphony’, a love story between Boy and Girl delightfully unfolds and ends with them dancing in the city streets that will make your feet tap along to the tune. ‘The Goddess’ is a grand, live-action piece set in space that brings you from the birth of a divine woman from a lotus flower and her travels through forest and ice.

Words don’t do this installation justice as it is definitely something that you have to see for yourself to believe and appreciate. It is definitely worth snapping some photos and videos as well as it is definitely the most ‘Instagrammable’ attraction at Resorts World Genting that will brighten up your feed!
