KUALA LUMPUR: After a long absence, Genting Highlands and Langkawi Island, both iconic locations, will make a much welcomed return to the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) this year.
Race organisers Human Voyage remained relatively tight lipped on the details of the race which will be held from April 6-13.
Human Voyage chief executive officer, Datuk Ahmad Mustafa, however, did confirm both venues will be included in the eight stage hors class event.
“Stage four will be from Shah Alam to Genting Highlands while the final two (seven and eight) stages will be held on Langkawi Island,” said Ahmad.
“There will also be two (UCI) Pro Tour teams competing. Preparations for the race have been going smoothly.
“I will leave the rest to the Sports Minister (Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman) to reveal during the launch event on Thursday.”
Genting Highlands has traditionally been the queen stage of LTdL, though it has not been included since 2014 due to construction works carried out. It was replaced either with Fraser Hill or Cameron Highlands in the years it was left out.
Langkawi, which was last included in 2015, is the namesake of the race but in recent years was often left out due to the prohibitive costs involved in transporting teams, equipment and officials to the Island.
LTdL is the brainchild of Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
